Cytkit is a project of Salman Samson Rogers and friends. (Samson previously founded Cellular Highways, the fast, automated, sterile and truly gentle cell sorter company.) We aim to bring a low-cost open-source cytometer design to the cytometry community. Thanks to many friends and colleagues, in particular to Oliver Burton for specification development and Stuart Vant for electronics. Thanks to David Novo for much advice.

The inspiration came from the Open Cytometry Hardware workshop by David Novo at CYTO 2024 in Edinburgh, we were also inspired by the OpenFlexure Microscope project and other open source scientific instruments.

The aim is to provide a highly useful and accessible cytometry analyser:

• useful for technology developers
• useful for laboratory hackers
• useful for resource-limited labs
• useful for teaching flow cytometry
• useful for all cell biologists
